Undergraduate Nursing & Health Sciences Programs

Do you have a passion for public health? Become a community and public health professional through Rhode Island College’s B.S. in community and public health promotion program. You will learn strategies to support healthy lifestyles and examine health inequities that impact communities. You will also engage in experiential learning opportunities at organizations such as the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Providence Community Health Center. The B.S. in health services offers concentrations in human services and medical laboratory sciences and completions in dental hygiene and respiratory therapy.

Medical imaging involves using techniques and processes to create images of various parts of the human body for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Rhode Island College has partnered with School of Medical Imaging to offer a B.S. degree in medical imaging.

Nursing is an art and a science. The art is the practice piece. The science is what forms the foundation to practice. In order to promote student success in this discipline, it is highly recommended that incoming students have a strong science background .

The R.N. to B.S.N. program responds to the needs of the registered nurse (R.N.) population by offering credit for prior learning, flexible course scheduling, individualized learning experiences and career development advising. You will be granted 37 transfer credits for your previous nursing courses and additional credit for other academic work.

The Nursing B.S.N. program for second degree candidates builds on the first baccalaureate degree and includes cognate and required nursing courses. Individualized plans of study are prepared upon application to the college. Second degree candidates are admitted to the college first and then apply to the Zvart Onanian School of Nursing for admission to the Nursing, Second Degree B.S.N. program.

In this nursing program you will engage in continuous education in the arts and sciences to inform decision making in professional nursing and as a member of a global society, apply concepts of leadership, quality and safety to improve health-care outcomes in a cost-effective, safe and caring organizational environment and demonstrate critical thinking in evaluating and integrating evidence and interprofessional perspectives to improve health-care outcomes.

Vascular Interventional Radiography (VIR) is an imaging modality that requires previous certification in Radiography. This program allows for students in the Radiography Program to continue with their education and professional advancement.  It also allows for current certified radiologic technologists to continue their education and obtain an additional certification. 

Locally and nationally, there is a need for certified VIR technologists. This program offers students the opportunity to continue their professional growth within the field of imaging. It will also allow for current certified radiologic technologists to continue their education and obtain an additional certification. This program has been endorsed by the School of Medical Imaging’s Advisory board.
